Maternal-Fetal Medicine is the Ob/Gyn subspecialty that addresses a broad spectrum of prenatal, antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum abnormalities of the fetus or the mother that can arise during high-risk pregnancies. While pregnancy is usually a normal physiologic process, the Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialist is trained to diagnose and manage multiple fetal or maternal risks present in an atypical pregnancy. There are currently approximately 66 approved training programs in the subspecialty of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
