Gynecologic Oncology is the Ob/Gyn subspecialty that addresses the causes, prevention and comprehensive management of women with cancers and pre-cancerous conditions of the female reproductive tract, including the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. Education in this area includes comprehensive training in both the surgical and medical aspects (e.g., chemotherapy) of managing patients with gynecologic malignancies.
The Gynecologic Oncology Group is a not-for-profit organization that conducts clinical trials of emerging new treatments for patients with gynecologic cancers. There are currently 39 approved training programs in the subspecialty of Gynecologic Oncology.
